Reading Buddies
Fourth graders co-created a list of what it meant to be a buddy before their first Friday together. These are the expectations that they set for themselves in how they were going to treat their first grade buddy.

When I began my student teaching placement in fourth grade, I realized one important thing:
Kids learn from each other Thus, the process of Reading Buddies started. Fourth graders and first graders were being paired based on who would work best together and the varied levels of reading were taken into consideration too. The first grade and fourth grade teachers began collaboration on what activities to include for buddy time. We knew that both the fourth and first graders would strengthen their fluency skills when reading to their buddy. AND why not add a little more fun to their school day? So, every Friday, reading buddies began meeting and taking turns on who read that week. Then, they were given opportunities to go outside, play games, or create drawings together.
